Castle courtyard, cloister courtyard
This space to the south of the imposing Abbey Church is the site of the former cloister of the Payerne priory. All that remains of the cloister today is the east wing, which is occupied by the abbey church museum. On the ground floor you will find one of the only remaining Clunisian chapter houses still intact. The buildings that have replaced the other two sides still bear the traces of the outer walls of the cloister. On the ground, the red cobblestones trace the location of the low wall of the inner courtyard.
